    Red face

I've got a 97 car with the obd1 conversion and can't pass emissions cause they insist on plugging their computer into 96 and above ECU's here! (due by December 31)

Sooo, Yeah I knew this was coming, and I could take out the rc440's and reinstall the stock etc. And then it get passed and reinstall the 440s. But it's still a pain...

BUT then I was thinking - Zips SMC operates large injectors. Zips SMC is pretty cheap -isn't it like a $100 or so. Could I just hook that up to the stock ECU, get it tuned just enough to run the car to get it smog checked!!

What do you all think? I don't know that much about the SMC. I also couldn't find whether it "will" pass emissions when tuned. I'm hoping so.

    smc will not pass smog.
to pass with 440cc's you have to be able to make the injectors "seem" small like stock to the ecu at close loop. which smc will not be able to do.

Yeah, I've already anticipated this type of emission inspection procedure, and this is my plan...
    1. Get a set of DSM 240cc injectors to swap out the DSM 450cc without changing the injector clips. (I already have the injectors)
    2. Swap the OBD1 ECU with the stock OBD2 ECU.
    3. Move the MAP sensor back to the throttle body or route the vacuum hose to the vacuum only port on the JRSC.
    4. Reinstall the cat and the 2nd O2 sensor.
    5. Optional step... tie the bypass valve open to avoid boost.

Ummm....yes, it does! The SMC allows for part throttle and full throttle applications by "remapping" the stock ECU fuel maps.

Dude, you're making my day! (and it's still real early here)

I didn't see a "but" after that statement, so I'm hoping there's no other reason why it might not work.
